Folklore
The people of Uruguay enjoy tales of folklore. Many tales of folklore in Uruguay surround the naming of Uruguay's capital, Montevideo. One such story surrounding the name is that of Magelians trip to the region. It is legend that while sailing in the region one of Megelians sailors saw land and shouted "Monte vide eu" meaning "I see a hill". The country's capital then was named Montevideo. A second legend of folklore surrouding the naming of Uruguays capital has to do with the capitals location. It is said the name Montevideo comes from the phrase "Monte Vi de E.O." meaning the "sixth hill from the east to the west". (Folklore 1)
